Area Overview

What makes Dehu special

Dehu is the birthplace of Sant Tukaram, and one of the two great Varkari pilgrimage towns of this region alongside Alandi. The temple complex on the Indrayani is the reason the town exists and the reason most people come.

The annual Palkhi procession begins here and draws lakhs of pilgrims. Outside those weeks it is a quiet river town with a settled local population.

Residential development is modest and slow by PCMC standards. Temple-town character, riverside land and heritage constraints have kept it that way, and that is unlikely to change quickly.

Why choose Dehu?

Dehu should be understood as a pilgrimage town first. It has genuine heritage in the Sant Tukaram temple, the Indrayani ghats and the Palkhi tradition, plus riverside land and low prices. But development is deliberately limited, retail and healthcare are thin, and the Palkhi weeks bring lakhs of pilgrims that close roads entirely. It suits someone drawn to the town itself, not a commuter.
