Area Overview

What makes Colaba special

Colaba is the southern tip of the island and the city’s best-known address to outsiders. The Gateway of India, the Taj Mahal Palace and the Causeway are all here, and so is the tourist traffic that comes with them.

Behind the Causeway sit quiet residential lanes, the Afghan Church, Sassoon Dock with its working fish market, and the naval land that runs south toward Navy Nagar.

It is a heritage precinct almost throughout, so new construction is minimal and alteration is tightly controlled. Stock is old, characterful and closely held.

Why choose Colaba?

Colaba is the most characterful address in Mumbai — the Gateway, the Causeway, the galleries at Kala Ghoda, Cooperage and Colaba Woods, and quiet heritage lanes two streets back from the tourist traffic. Nariman Point and Fort are ten minutes away. Against that: no railway station, an airport run of about an hour, yields near 2–2.5%, strict heritage controls and constant tourist footfall on the main streets.
