Area Overview

What makes Girgaum special

Girgaum is the cultural heart of old Marathi Bombay. The wadis — Khotachi Wadi, Ambewadi and others — are lanes of low-rise timber-and-stone houses that have survived largely intact, and are now protected.

Girgaum Chowpatty sits at its western edge, the Ganpati processions that end there begin in these streets, and the Marathi theatre and publishing traditions still have a presence.

Aqua Line 3 has a Girgaon station. Large cluster redevelopment schemes are approved across parts of the belt, which will change it substantially over the coming decade.
