Area Overview

What makes Sundarapuram special

Sundarapuram sits on the Palakkad road in the southern belt, between Kuniyamuthur and the Madukkarai side — a settled working locality with its own markets and a mix of independent houses and apartments.

IT IS PART OF THE SAME INDUSTRIAL CLUSTER as Kuniyamuthur and Kurichi, with the same trade-offs: employment close by, prices well under the western belt, and industrial neighbours to check.

THE PALAKKAD ROAD IS BOTH THE ADVANTAGE AND THE ANNOYANCE. It gives direct southern and Kerala-side access and carries heavy through traffic, including freight, at most hours.

Exceptionally Connected

Rail, road and air • NO METRO — DPR returned by the Centre in November 2025 • Coimbatore Junction • Airport 10 km

Local Train

Coimbatore Junction is the main station, on the Chennai-Coimbatore-Kerala trunk route. PODANUR JUNCTION to the south is older and still handles a share of traffic, and there are suburban halts along the Irugur and Podanur lines.

Metro

Coimbatore has NO METRO. The Phase 1 DPR - two elevated corridors, about 34.8 km - was approved by the Tamil Nadu government in February 2024, but THE UNION GOVERNMENT RETURNED IT IN NOVEMBER 2025 on the ground that the city does not meet the population criterion in the National Metro Rail Policy, which is read against the 2011 Census. NOTHING IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Judge this locality on road and rail, not on a proposed alignment - and CHECK CURRENT STATUS, because the position is politically live.

Airport

Coimbatore International Airport at Peelamedu is about 12 km from the centre and unusually close in - which is convenient, and which is also why HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS apply across the eastern side of the city.

Roads

The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.

What is the honest case for buying in Coimbatore’s southern belt?

Work, and a great deal more house for the money. The southern belt is where the city’s engineering and foundry economy actually sits, so for anyone employed in it the commute is short and reliable in a way that no western-belt address can match, and prices run well under half of RS Puram. The honest case against is equally simple: industrial neighbours, heavier traffic, and air quality that is worth checking for yourself rather than taking on trust. Neither list is a verdict. Visit at several times of day, ask residents, and find out what specifically adjoins the plot — then decide.
