Area Overview

What makes Singanallur special

Singanallur is an established working locality in the east of the city, on the Trichy Road side, with a mixed residential and small-industrial character and a long-standing bus terminus.

SINGANALLUR LAKE IS THE LAND QUESTION HERE. It is one of the Noyyal river chain of tanks that runs through Coimbatore, it carries significant birdlife, and it has been the subject of restoration work. Waterbody protection restricts construction on and near a recorded tank, and the record governs rather than the appearance — land that was tank and has been filled and levelled looks entirely ordinary.

SO CHECK AN OLDER RECORD AS WELL AS THE CURRENT ONE. A recent reclassification is visible; one made decades ago is only visible in the older adangal.

Local train and transport links serving Singanallur, Coimbatore

Exceptionally Connected

Rail, road and air • NO METRO — DPR returned by the Centre in November 2025 • Coimbatore Junction • Airport 10 km

Local Train

Coimbatore Junction is the main station, on the Chennai-Coimbatore-Kerala trunk route. PODANUR JUNCTION to the south is older and still handles a share of traffic, and there are suburban halts along the Irugur and Podanur lines.

Metro

Coimbatore has NO METRO. The Phase 1 DPR - two elevated corridors, about 34.8 km - was approved by the Tamil Nadu government in February 2024, but THE UNION GOVERNMENT RETURNED IT IN NOVEMBER 2025 on the ground that the city does not meet the population criterion in the National Metro Rail Policy, which is read against the 2011 Census. NOTHING IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Judge this locality on road and rail, not on a proposed alignment - and CHECK CURRENT STATUS, because the position is politically live.

Airport

Coimbatore International Airport at Peelamedu is about 12 km from the centre and unusually close in - which is convenient, and which is also why HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS apply across the eastern side of the city.

Roads

The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.

Quick answers about living, buying and renting in Singanallur.

What is the rent for a 2 BHK in Singanallur?

A 2 BHK in Singanallur typically rents for ₹32,000 to ₹59,000 per month depending on building, floor and condition.

How does the Noyyal tank chain affect buying in Coimbatore?

More than most buyers expect, because the chain runs right through the built city rather than around it. Coimbatore’s tanks — Singanallur, Kurichi, Ukkadam Periyakulam and the others — were built as a connected irrigation system, and their recorded extent is often larger than what is visibly water today. Waterbody protection operates on that record. The practical consequence is narrow and important: a plot that looks like ordinary dry ground can be classified as tank or tank bed, and no municipal approval overrides that. Read the adangal, read an older one, and if the plot is anywhere near a named tank, take advice before committing.

Is Singanallur suitable for families?

Local CBSE schools operate within 2 km with a local CBSE school about 7 km and Regional international school about 6 km, plus local hospitals about 2 km.
