Area Overview
What makes One Town special
One Town is the historic core of Vijayawada, below the Indrakeeladri hill and the Kanaka Durga temple, running down to the Krishna — wholesale trade, temples, and the oldest continuously occupied property in the city.
THE NAME ITSELF IS ADMINISTRATIVE. “One Town” is the first municipal division, and the city’s older quarters are still commonly referred to by division number. That is worth knowing because it means the name describes an area boundary drawn for administration, not a neighbourhood as a resident would define one.
IT IS TITLE-FIRST AND SPECULATIVE FOR AN OUTSIDE BUYER: ancestral holdings, co-ownership among many heirs, structures altered over generations without record, temple and endowment land in the vicinity, and lanes a car cannot enter. ENDOWMENT LAND IS A SPECIFIC AP QUESTION and appears on the Section 22A list.

Getting around from One Town

Exceptionally Connected
Rail, road and air • NO METRO IN SERVICE — proposed, land acquisition begun, nothing built • Vijayawada Junction • Airport 10 km
Local Train
Vijayawada Junction is one of the busiest stations in India, on the main east coast trunk route, with Gunadala and Rayanapadu also serving the urban area.
Metro
Vijayawada has NO METRO IN SERVICE. The Phase 1 plan is two corridors of about 38 km from Pandit Nehru Bus Station to Penamaluru and to Nidamanuru via the airport, including a double-decker viaduct between Benz Circle and Ramavarappadu Ring. The state approved the DPR in 2024 and land acquisition began in early 2025, but REPORTS THROUGH EARLY 2026 SAID FORMAL CENTRAL FUNDING SANCTION WAS STILL OUTSTANDING. NOTHING IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. CHECK CURRENT STATUS, and do not pay for a station that has not been built.
Airport
Vijayawada International Airport is at GANNAVARAM, about 20 km east - which is itself a row on this sheet, and a separate town rather than a city neighbourhood.
Roads
The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.

Note: ONE TOWN IS THE OLD CITY, and its name is a MUNICIPAL DIVISION NUMBER, not a neighbourhood name. TITLE IS THE GOVERNING QUESTION: ancestral holdings, many heirs, unrecorded alteration, and ENDOWMENT OR TEMPLE LAND in the vicinity, which appears on the SECTION 22A PROHIBITED LIST and cannot be registered. It is also low-lying toward the river. TAKE LEGAL ADVICE BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.
