What makes Krishna Lanka special
“Lanka” in Telugu river geography means an island or the alluvial land formed within or beside a river channel. Krishna Lanka is exactly that — low-lying ground beside the Krishna, close to the old city, densely settled.
THE NAME IS THE WARNING, and 2024 confirmed it. When Budameru breached at the end of August 2024, Krishnalanka was among the areas named in contemporary reporting as inundated; around 35 people died in NTR district and roughly 270,000 people were affected across the city.
RIVERINE ALLUVIAL LAND ALSO RAISES A RECORD QUESTION beyond flooding, as it does everywhere in this project: recorded boundaries on land formed by a river can shift as the river does, and what the adangal says the land is matters more than what it currently looks like.

Local Train
Vijayawada Junction is one of the busiest stations in India, on the main east coast trunk route, with Gunadala and Rayanapadu also serving the urban area.
Metro
Vijayawada has NO METRO IN SERVICE. The Phase 1 plan is two corridors of about 38 km from Pandit Nehru Bus Station to Penamaluru and to Nidamanuru via the airport, including a double-decker viaduct between Benz Circle and Ramavarappadu Ring. The state approved the DPR in 2024 and land acquisition began in early 2025, but REPORTS THROUGH EARLY 2026 SAID FORMAL CENTRAL FUNDING SANCTION WAS STILL OUTSTANDING. NOTHING IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. CHECK CURRENT STATUS, and do not pay for a station that has not been built.
Airport
Vijayawada International Airport is at GANNAVARAM, about 20 km east - which is itself a row on this sheet, and a separate town rather than a city neighbourhood.
Roads
The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.
