Area Overview

What makes Race Course special

Race Course takes its name from the colonial-era course and has become the belt of clubs, hotels, corporate offices, consulates and large individual bungalow plots that surrounds it. Unlike the road rows elsewhere on this sheet, this is a genuine locality with an address people use.

SUPPLY IS THIN AND LARGELY INSTITUTIONAL. Much of the frontage is in club, hotel or company hands rather than on the residential market, so the number of houses that actually change hands in a year is small — which makes comparable pricing harder here than in RS Puram next door.

IT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE LAND IN THE CITY on a per-square-foot basis for a large plot, and the buyer pool is correspondingly narrow.

Local train and transport links serving Race Course, Coimbatore

Exceptionally Connected

Rail, road and air • NO METRO — DPR returned by the Centre in November 2025 • Coimbatore Junction • Airport 10 km

Local Train

Coimbatore Junction is the main station, on the Chennai-Coimbatore-Kerala trunk route. PODANUR JUNCTION to the south is older and still handles a share of traffic, and there are suburban halts along the Irugur and Podanur lines.

Metro

Coimbatore has NO METRO. The Phase 1 DPR - two elevated corridors, about 34.8 km - was approved by the Tamil Nadu government in February 2024, but THE UNION GOVERNMENT RETURNED IT IN NOVEMBER 2025 on the ground that the city does not meet the population criterion in the National Metro Rail Policy, which is read against the 2011 Census. NOTHING IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Judge this locality on road and rail, not on a proposed alignment - and CHECK CURRENT STATUS, because the position is politically live.

Airport

Coimbatore International Airport at Peelamedu is about 12 km from the centre and unusually close in - which is convenient, and which is also why HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS apply across the eastern side of the city.

Roads

The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about living, buying and renting in Race Course.

Is Race Course a good place to live?

RACE COURSE IS A REAL LOCALITY, not a landmark row — the low-density belt of clubs, hotels, offices and large plots around the old course.

What is the average property price in Race Course?

Purchase prices are typically around ₹14,000–19,000 per sq.ft, with a typical 2 BHK ranging from ₹70L to ₹89L.

What is the rent for a 2 BHK in Race Course?

A 2 BHK in Race Course typically rents for ₹32,000 to ₹59,000 per month depending on building, floor and condition.

Is a landmark name always a bad locality name?

No, and Race Course is the clearest example on this sheet of one that has become a real place. The test is whether people give it as their address, whether it has a defined extent that residents would agree on, and whether there is housing inside it. Race Course passes all three. “Town Hall” and “Lakshmi Mills” on this same sheet pass the first and fail the others — they are points that traffic and buses converge on rather than areas people live in. The distinction matters because it decides whether a page can honestly carry a price range.

Is Race Course suitable for families?

Local CBSE schools operate within 2 km with a local CBSE school about 7 km and Regional international school about 6 km, plus local hospitals about 2 km.

Is Race Course a good investment?

Reported price appreciation has been roughly 6–9% per year with rental yields around 2.5–3%. As with any market, actual returns vary and should be checked against current transaction data before investing.

How far is Race Course from Coimbatore airport?

Race Course is about 20 km from Coimbatore International Airport — around 48 minutes at peak.

What are the best nearby alternatives to Race Course?

Comparable alternatives include RS Puram, DB Road, Saibaba Colony and Ramanathapuram.
