Area Overview

What makes Town Hall special

Town Hall names the historic civic building and, by extension, the oldest trading quarter of Coimbatore around it — dense, commercial, and the origin point of the city’s bazaars.

IT IS TITLE-FIRST AND SPECULATIVE FOR AN OUTSIDE BUYER. Holdings here are frequently ancestral and divided among numerous heirs, structures have been altered over generations without any of it reaching a record, and some properties have no clean documented chain at all. This is the same class as Chandni Chowk on the Delhi sheet and the Charminar belt in Hyderabad.

IT ALSO NAMES ITS OWN ZONE on this sheet, which makes a bare “Town Hall” ambiguous between the landmark, the quarter and the five-row zone.

Local train and transport links serving Town Hall, Coimbatore

Exceptionally Connected

Rail, road and air • NO METRO — DPR returned by the Centre in November 2025 • Coimbatore Junction • Airport 10 km

Local Train

Coimbatore Junction is the main station, on the Chennai-Coimbatore-Kerala trunk route. PODANUR JUNCTION to the south is older and still handles a share of traffic, and there are suburban halts along the Irugur and Podanur lines.

Metro

Coimbatore has NO METRO. The Phase 1 DPR - two elevated corridors, about 34.8 km - was approved by the Tamil Nadu government in February 2024, but THE UNION GOVERNMENT RETURNED IT IN NOVEMBER 2025 on the ground that the city does not meet the population criterion in the National Metro Rail Policy, which is read against the 2011 Census. NOTHING IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Judge this locality on road and rail, not on a proposed alignment - and CHECK CURRENT STATUS, because the position is politically live.

Airport

Coimbatore International Airport at Peelamedu is about 12 km from the centre and unusually close in - which is convenient, and which is also why HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS apply across the eastern side of the city.

Roads

The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about living, buying and renting in Town Hall.

Is Town Hall a good place to live?

TOWN HALL IS A BUILDING AND THE OLD TRADING QUARTER AROUND IT — heavily commercial, with deep title questions and very little ordinary residential stock.

What is the average property price in Town Hall?

Purchase prices are typically around ₹14,000–19,000 per sq.ft, with a typical 2 BHK ranging from ₹70L to ₹89L.

What is the rent for a 2 BHK in Town Hall?

A 2 BHK in Town Hall typically rents for ₹32,000 to ₹59,000 per month depending on building, floor and condition.

Is the old trading quarter a sensible buy for an outside buyer?

Usually not, and it is worth saying plainly. For a trader who already works in the market, knows which families hold what, and is buying premises rather than an investment, the value here is real and the discount to the western belt is large. For an outside buyer treating it as ordinary residential or as a yield play, the title work is deeper than the price suggests, the co-ownership chains can run to many heirs, and some properties simply cannot be conveyed cleanly. This project reached the same conclusion about Chandni Chowk in Delhi and the Charminar belt in Hyderabad, and the reasoning holds here.

Is Town Hall suitable for families?

Local CBSE schools operate within 2 km with a local CBSE school about 7 km and Regional international school about 6 km, plus local hospitals about 2 km.

Is Town Hall a good investment?

Reported price appreciation has been roughly 6–9% per year with rental yields around 5–5.5%. As with any market, actual returns vary and should be checked against current transaction data before investing.

How far is Town Hall from Coimbatore airport?

Town Hall is about 20 km from Coimbatore International Airport — around 48 minutes at peak.

What are the best nearby alternatives to Town Hall?

Comparable alternatives include Big Bazaar Street, Gandhipuram, Cross Cut Road and Lakshmi Mills.
