Madukkarai, about 15 km south of the city on the Palakkad road, is defined by its cement works and the limestone quarrying that feeds them. It is an industrial town with its own local body rather than a Coimbatore Corporation suburb.
TWO THINGS FOLLOW FOR A BUYER. Authority: approvals, services and tax follow the local body, not the Corporation. And amenity: cement manufacture and quarrying bring dust, heavy vehicle movement and noise, which are reasonable local enquiries rather than accusations — visit in different wind conditions and ask residents directly.
IT ALSO SITS ON THE FOREST EDGE toward the Walayar gap, where reserved forest boundary provisions apply independently of planning permission, and where elephant movement through the gap is a documented feature of the area.

Local Train
Coimbatore Junction is the main station, on the Chennai-Coimbatore-Kerala trunk route. PODANUR JUNCTION to the south is older and still handles a share of traffic, and there are suburban halts along the Irugur and Podanur lines.
Metro
Coimbatore has NO METRO. The Phase 1 DPR - two elevated corridors, about 34.8 km - was approved by the Tamil Nadu government in February 2024, but THE UNION GOVERNMENT RETURNED IT IN NOVEMBER 2025 on the ground that the city does not meet the population criterion in the National Metro Rail Policy, which is read against the 2011 Census. NOTHING IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Judge this locality on road and rail, not on a proposed alignment - and CHECK CURRENT STATUS, because the position is politically live.
Airport
Coimbatore International Airport at Peelamedu is about 12 km from the centre and unusually close in - which is convenient, and which is also why HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS apply across the eastern side of the city.

The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.
