Area Overview

What makes Big Bazaar Street special

Big Bazaar Street is one of the principal wholesale trading streets of the old bazaar quarter, near Town Hall. It is a working market street rather than a neighbourhood.

THE HOLDINGS ARE THE OLDEST AND MOST DIVIDED IN THE CITY. Properties commonly pass through families over generations, co-ownership can run to many heirs, and structures have been altered repeatedly without the changes reaching a record.

VEHICLE ACCESS IS LIMITED OR ABSENT in parts, which affects daily use, resale and what a lender will accept as security. Walk the last stretch at a trading hour before forming any view.

Local train and transport links serving Big Bazaar Street, Coimbatore

Exceptionally Connected

Rail, road and air • NO METRO — DPR returned by the Centre in November 2025 • Coimbatore Junction • Airport 10 km

Local Train

Coimbatore Junction is the main station, on the Chennai-Coimbatore-Kerala trunk route. PODANUR JUNCTION to the south is older and still handles a share of traffic, and there are suburban halts along the Irugur and Podanur lines.

Metro

Coimbatore has NO METRO. The Phase 1 DPR - two elevated corridors, about 34.8 km - was approved by the Tamil Nadu government in February 2024, but THE UNION GOVERNMENT RETURNED IT IN NOVEMBER 2025 on the ground that the city does not meet the population criterion in the National Metro Rail Policy, which is read against the 2011 Census. NOTHING IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Judge this locality on road and rail, not on a proposed alignment - and CHECK CURRENT STATUS, because the position is politically live.

Airport

Coimbatore International Airport at Peelamedu is about 12 km from the centre and unusually close in - which is convenient, and which is also why HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS apply across the eastern side of the city.

Roads

The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.

What is the rent for a 2 BHK in Big Bazaar Street?

What does “no vehicle access” actually mean for a purchase?

Three separate things, and buyers usually only think about the first. Day to day, it means carrying everything the last stretch, which some people accept readily. On resale, it narrows the buyer pool sharply, because the next purchaser will weigh the same thing. And on finance, it can mean a lender declines the property as security altogether, which removes most buyers from the pool at once. That third point is the one that turns a manageable inconvenience into a real discount. Establish it early: walk the route, and ask your bank before you commit rather than after.

Is Big Bazaar Street suitable for families?

Local CBSE schools operate within 2 km with a local CBSE school about 7 km and Regional international school about 6 km, plus local hospitals about 2 km.
