What makes Pandey Layout special
“Layout” is used across Nagpur and Vidarbha the way “colony” is used in the north and “nagar” across much of India — it names a plotted residential development. Pandey Layout is one of many on the southern side.
THE WORD CARRIES THE CENTRAL QUESTION WITH IT. A layout is either SANCTIONED — laid out with approval, roads and services — or it is not, in which case it is a gunthewari layout and the plot needs regularising. The two look identical from the street once houses are built.
ADD IT TO THE GLOSSARY. This project has recorded regional formatives across thirty-four cities — pally and para in Bengal, peth in Maharashtra, kampoo in Gwalior, lanka in coastal Andhra. LAYOUT is the Vidarbha entry, and unlike most it names a legal status question as well as a place.

Local Train
Nagpur Junction is one of the busiest stations in India, at the crossing of the north-south and east-west trunk routes, with Ajni also serving the city and a metro station of its own.

*** NAGPUR HAS A WORKING METRO - TWO LINES, BOTH OPERATIONAL. *** The ORANGE LINE runs north-south from Automotive Square to Khapri via Sitabuldi, and the AQUA LINE runs east-west from Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar and on toward Hingna, about 18.6 km. SITABULDI IS THE INTERCHANGE. Phase 1 opened in stages from March 2019. PHASE 2 was approved by the state cabinet in January 2019 and extends the two lines to Kanhan, Butibori MIDC, Transport Nagar (Kapsi) and Hingna - CHECK WHICH SECTIONS ARE ACTUALLY OPEN before relying on one.
Airport
Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport is about 8 km south, inside the MIHAN complex - which is itself a row on this sheet. THE ORANGE LINE METRO SERVES IT DIRECTLY.
Roads
The EM Bypass, VIP Road, Diamond Harbour Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road form the arterial network, with Chowringhee through the centre.
