Area Overview

What makes Trombay special

Trombay occupies the south-eastern corner of Mumbai’s island, wrapped around Trombay Hill and the harbour. It is dominated by institutions rather than developers: BARC, the RCF fertiliser works and the Tata Power station between them account for much of the land.

Anushakti Nagar is its best-known residential pocket — a planned BARC township with its own schools, hospital and green cover, and one of the few genuinely low-density addresses in the eastern suburbs.

Outside the colonies the picture changes sharply. The village and koliwada belt is dense and under-served, the open market is small, and much of the good stock never reaches a listing because it is institutional housing.

Why choose Trombay?

Trombay is unusual for the eastern suburbs: low density, real tree cover and the planned Anushakti Nagar township with its own schools and hospital. But most of that housing is institutional and allotted to BARC and RCF staff rather than available to buy or rent. The open market is small and sits mainly on the village side, there is no station inside the belt, and industrial neighbours affect air quality on some days.
